Energy Efficiency

Windows are energy holes. Fortunately, modern windows do a good job of preventing unwanted air flow; however, closed windows still offer very little resistance to the flow of energy. Compared to the walls and roofs of today’s home, standard double pane windows allow 10-15 times more heat energy to flow through them. Up to half a home’s heating and cooling energy can be lost through them.

Many of today’s window coverings are more than attractive, as they offer homeowners a variety of options that make a room look great while giving your home an extremely green makeover. Energy efficient window coverings can double the value of a standard window with double-pane glass and low-E Coating.

HONEYCOMB SHADES are one of the most effective temperature-transfer barriers between a window and the room. They are a beautiful, energy efficient choice.

PLANTATION SHUTTERS are a classic favorite, with the Energy Smart Alliance reporting that wood shutters offer R-values between 2.77 ad 3.17. Both wood and vinyl shutters are effective insulators, and because they fit tightly in the window frame, they also block the transfer of heat, so important with our hot Texas summers.

DRAPERY is another great energy saving window covering. Blackout lining protects from summer sun and heat, while providing a lovely finishing touch to your room. Maximum efficiency is achieved when a shade is mounted inside the window frame, and floor length drapery is installed to seal off the window. Prices vary with fabric choices, and whether the drapery is fully operable, or if stationery panels are installed.

Consultation with one of our design consultants will always allow you to save money in the long term, as you make the right choice when you purchase. We take into consideration various factors such as window exposure, time of day use, and preserving the view. These considerations assure the best fit for energy efficiency, aesthetics, and future resale value.
